How to take care of your face.

How to take care of your face.

Every morning and every night, whether you think you need to or not:

1. Wash your face using a good cleanser. Good ones come in a bottle or a tube, not in a bar. Choose one that matches your skin type (dry, oily, combination, normal). If you don't know which you have, drop me a note. I have a short set of questions that will help you determine.

It doesn't much matter what kind of cloth you use to wash your face with, if you don't have acne. Lots of people like the "chamois"-like cloths, but as long as you don't scrub and you use a clean one every day or two, it really doesn't matter.

2. After cleansing, pat your face dry (don't rub) and then use a toner that is designed for your skin type. If you have oily or combination skin, you should use a mattefying toner. Don't use stick mattefiers.

3. After cleansing and toning, use a moisturizer that is designed for your skin type. The toner should be dry before putting on the moisturizer. If it's taking too long for the toner to dry, use less toner.

All cleansing, toning, and moisturizing needs to be done "up and out" - from the neck and chin upwards, and in upward and outward motions on the face and forehead.

If you're going to use any kind of a treatment product (for fine lines and wrinkles, for example), use it after toning but before moisturizing.

During the day, you can use a spray type moisturizer when, where, and if you notice you need it on spots that are drying out.

Also, make sure that you aren't getting any hair products (e.g., hairspray) on your forehead after you have cleansed, toned, and moisturized.

Everybody has his or her favorite products. Contact me through this weblog for my recommendations.
